Resilience Evaluation-Social Emotional Training (RE-SET) Program at MGH

151 Merrimac Street Suite 501, Boston, MA 02114

The RE-SET Program at the Massachusetts General Hospital is a specialized outpatient program for adolescents and young adults (ages 12-30) who are experiencing changes in their thoughts, feelings, behaviors and not functioning as well as they used to socially, in work, or in school. RE-SET provides interventions with the aim to delay or prevent the onset of serious mental illnesses including psychotic disorders and reduce or prevent functional impairment. These changes in thoughts or behaviors might include: difficulty thinking clearly and expressing thoughts to others in a way that makes sense, hearing or seeing things that others don’t, experiencing new, unusual beliefs, such as being more suspicious of others’ motives or thinking people want to harm them or feeling that certain events or information have special, personal meaning for them, along with other possible changes.

RE-SET provides both one-time diagnostic consultations as well as ongoing clinical care for those found eligible. Patients can self-refer, be referred by parents or family, or by members of their current treatment team.

If upon review of the referral, our program seems like it could be helpful for your treatment needs, you will then be offered a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation that may span over 1-3 visits. Upon completion of evaluation, the patient, their family, and any current treatment providers will receive diagnostic impressions and treatment recommendations. Individuals who qualify for ongoing care with the RE-SET program may be followed in the program for up to three years. Our services continue to be offered in-person with virtual visits available as needed.

Eligibility

Age: 12-30 years old

Diagnosis: RE-SET works with young people who are experiencing symptoms that put them at high clinical risk for psychosis (sometimes referred to as prodromal psychosis), but who have not had fully psychotic symptoms. Those who have already received a clear diagnosis of a psychotic illness, such as schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder, or those who have experienced a clear first episode of psychosis, may be better served by a program which specializes in treating early psychosis.

Primary Care: You are not required to have a Primary Care Provider (PCP) at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) to be eligible for RE-SET services.
